Why I Serve – One More Sunday | 5G Built Right | Verizon

My son and I were involved in a fire. We got someone on the second floor! C’mon buddy! C’mon! Ready now! It’s okay buddy! it’s okay! Had they not answered the call we wouldn’t be here. He’s all I got. You know Military, Police, Fire, EMT, we all just want to help others. They couldn’t do their job if they weren’t serious about caring for people. In reality, to most of them, that’s their nature.
They handle each person with the same amount of care and dedication. They’re there for you. They answered the call for me and my son. How’s your leg buddy? You okay? Hey that was a good jump man! I remember on the ambulance ride, I remember Melvin saying that he wasn’t going to leave me and he sat with me until my family arrived at the hospital and now I’m actually a fire lieutenant because of Melvin. I would be dead right now because I had no way of getting out on my own. They saved my life and I’m really thankful. I was just in the right spot at the right time. Ya know anyone would have done that. I’m no hero. I’m a regular joe who just loves helping other people. That’s it. You know you’re that face that they can see. That you can change their life in an instant. Regardless of whether you’re a first responder or a civilian, you know human nature kicks in and all of us kind of know how important it is to help others when in need and that there’s sacrifices that we have to make to make the world a better place. It feels great when you are able to see something that you made a difference in, something larger than you. And it makes you want to do it over and over and over and over again. There are people who are going out there everyday trying to make their community better, who are not getting paid for it. They’re the heroes. If you could do something to make a difference to someone you don’t know. That’s what, that’s what being a human is all about.
